Wiki inside or outside a classroom? (Discussion)

I’ve noticed the more and more I read about teachers using the web and web 2.0 technologies for education in the classroom the more my view below comes to mind:

I always viewed web 2.0 resources like Wiki, and of course LearnHub, to be used outside of the classroom. A homework tool… a place for student to have access to a ton of resources, information, and contact with other students. I personally feel classroom time should be used for teacher to interact with their students. It’s a valuable time that shouldn’t be wasted. Maybe I am just old school… I never had any sort of computers in the classroom. Just a text book and a teacher with a loud voice.

Do you think web 2.0 is a useful tool to be used inside the classroom? If so, why?

I feel the same, lechuck! Direct interaction is so very precious in/for the relation between student(s) and teacher! As well as the communication (cooperative learning!) between the students! So using the web for education is `justĀ“ ( a powerful) an addition, just because we do not have enough time to spend together!! After school, even on holidays students (would) like to contact their teachers (if they offer contact by email, icq, moodle or or … all the other tools I come to know here on learnhub :)).

I have also only experienced using these tools outside the classroom. However we are about to start using the latest in Interactive White Boards – I’ve been to training and haven’t used one yet. After struggling to demonstrate on a regular whiteboard with almost dry whiteboard markers what to expect on a wiki page and where to look for the ‘edit this page’ button … I imagined using that interactive whiteboard and pulling up the wiki in class, working on it together at the time, and then sending them home to do some more.

    Anyone tried this?
